Hi my name is Marissa. I have been living the POCF life since 2009. My man and I have been together since 2008. He started on head boats as a kid. Then he went longlining in Trinidad. He took off a couple years then got into some dragging and made his way to scalloping. He has been scalloping since 2014. He is a mate for a multi boat operation based out of New Bern, NC. He does most of his fishing out of New Bedford, MA, but we find ourselves at multiple ports along the east coast. East Coast Ladies who want to connect reach out!!!
We just moved to the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Aka the North Country. Which has been a dream of ours for a while. We have two kids, and two dogs. I have a degree in accounting and worked in tax for 10 years but am currently enjoying my roll as the homemaker since my second little was born in 2021.
I enjoy a good cup of coffee, yoga, getting crafty, gardening, hiking, mountain views, bodies of water, really anything nature related.
After almost 15 years together we are finally prioritizing getting married this fall. Planning a wedding makes my skin crawl which is why it hasn’t happened yet. It will be a small shindig. If anyone has any suggestions, other than an open bar, which is a must, I’m all ears!
As a POCF the struggles are real, like a rollercoaster. It is hard and lonely and sometimes feels neverending. However it has made me so much stronger and independent. Sometimes I am so amazed at what I can accomplish on my own.
Always remember to reflect on all you have done and accomplished. It will help you get through. I am happy to be here and excited to connect with you all!
Here is to empowering each other! Thank you Megan! Cheers!
May 17, 2023 at 9:42 am #11964Hi Marissa. Nice to meet you 🙂 I’m also planning a wedding, and I feel you. What a pain! And we have to do it alone (although I don’t think he’d be much help even if he was home LOL) 😉
Cheers to the Open Bar priority 😉
May 19, 2023 at 5:02 pm #11972Hey, Marissa! SO glad you’re here! I love seeing that you’ve connected with other POCFs on the forum. A dream come true to see us link up like this! (Wipes tear.) 🙂 Everything you said is COMPLETELY relatable. A rollercoaster is a great way to describe it. With a few tweaks and a little help from our POCF sisters, it can be a more enjoyable ride. You took the first step by being with us on this forum. What helps me most is chatting with other women who understand <3
Regarding your upcoming wedding, I wanted to share two blog posts I did about marrying a fisherman. Even if you’re planning a simple wedding there are great tips from my wedding planner and a free downloadable checklist that may be helpful, too. Also, congratulations! So excited for you and your fisherman and family! 🙂

June 7, 2023 at 10:49 am #12023Hey, Marissa! Would you be interested in being on our new POCF podcast? I’d love to get to know you more and have others learn what it’s like to have worked in numerous fisheries! So interesting that y’all have been a part of fisheries along the East Coast. And finding your dream home in the White Mountains of New Hampshire is inspiring. If you’re open to it (whoo hoo!), we can schedule a day and time that works best for you. Probably will be around 30 minutes on Zoom. Just let me know, and we’ll go from there! Thanks for being here and connecting with others in the forum. Your presence means more than you know! <3
June 9, 2023 at 12:28 pm #12033<p style=”text-align: center;”>Hi Megan! Sorry for the delayed response. We are in full renovation mode over here. I’m without a kitchen for the month of June! Ah it’s crazy! I would do a podcast episode. Would you send me questions so I know what’s coming my way?</p>
June 11, 2023 at 2:49 pm #12043Hey, Marissa! So exciting to hear about your kitchen reno. I’m sure it’s a lot, but it will be AMAZING in the end!
Yay! So excited for your interest! I’ll for sure email you some questions, and we can figure out a good time from there.
Thanks so much, and I’m looking forward to connecting with you!
