Hey! Finally I’m making a post!! Lol. I’m a bad, bad forum member! I just started here, and I’m already burned out. Help revive me! 🤣🤣🤣
Don’t take this wrong! I’m NOT burned out on THIS forum, but I started a (sports) fishing forum 25 years ago and I just quit this last year. I tried to quit when I sold it years ago, but the buyer wanted me to stay on for a bit. (Like 8 years?!) but I’m finally free! And I was so burned out. So glad this is a private forum!
I think this forum will revive me as I now have more of an interest in POCF than sports fishing! I’m so excited to really start and meet you gals!
I so wish I could go to the retreat! What fun that sounds like! But, it’s clear across the country for me, as I’m based in Oregon. It will be so nice not to have to post, but to want to! Ok… I’m going to get busy and read and learn all about my fishing sisters, here!
Thank you Megan for all of your hard work!

September 20, 2023 at 10:09 am #12335Jennie! It’s worth the wait; I’m so glad you’re here. I’m so impressed/fascinated by the previous forum that you created. Maybe we can host a Zoom meeting with each other (or podcast!) that explains the experience you had and what people can expect from a forum. I’m still getting my bearings here, but I’m looking for new ways to make this place feel fun, safe, and LUXE for us.
What are you most interested in in the POCF lifestyle? Let me know, as I’d love to learn new ways to make this exciting and valuable to you.
I’ll keep posting in the Virtual and In-Person event Section for more updates, too.
Big hugs, and thank you for chatting with other women in the forum! I love your love and social energy. Much welcomed here!
LOVE AND POCF PRIDE! Talk soon! 😉
September 20, 2023 at 3:58 pm #12337It’s really incredible what a group of like minded people can accomplish!
We had SO much fun in our years together at ifish.net.We had a party every summer at my place on the Kilchis river called “ifishstock” (lol)
It got so big that we had to start renting a row of Porta potty’s!
Lots of companies would donate prizes and we would have contests and drawings. Everybody brought food! food! food! Some of the people would go out fishing in the morning on the bay and bring in their catch to throw on the barbecue. We had fresh tuna and crab, and salmon!
At Christmas, we had a toy drive for all the children in the cancer unit at one of the hospitals here in Portland. We’ve gathered so many toys that we had to rent a Semi to haul them all, and we had ambulances and fire trucks leading the way from our pizza party to the hospital to unload! Nothing felt better than to see the joy on those kids faces who were stuck in the hospital at Christmas!
Besides all the fun, we had so many people that we honestly made a difference in changing laws and efforts made to save certain species of fish. One of our members developed a lure that would help yellow eye from baratrauma. (Sp?)
We had a coloring contest (ifish kwikfish) each year to design a lure. The winner got his lure printed and was offered for sale. People on ifish are now selling certain lure designs on eBay for up to 1000.00 a piece on auction sites!
We found that as we gained popularity, so did we gain problems. Our best work was done as a small group, so don’t worry about growing the forum too fast! What started out as one simple rule ‘BE NICE’ grew to this!
Step one - Moderate yourself. If your unsure about something your about to post you probably shouldn’t post it. Review the AUP and feel free to ask questions.
Step Two – Report problems by those who aren’t self moderating by using the alert button , to the left and bottom of each post.Ifish Simplified AUP
BE NICE.
Be Respectful. Keep it on topic or start your own thread. Tolerate other opinions and don’t question the rules here in the public forums.
No name calling, inflammatory posts, threats, or verbal attacks…period!
Avoid divisive topics. Discuss things like gun rights/laws, abortion, religion and politics elsewhere.
Refrain from discussing illegal activities or vigilante justice.
Advertising, links and contact information are for sponsors only. Inquire about becoming a sponsor here.
Kids read here and so do wives and mothers. We run a tight ship. No bodily functions, “bathroom talk” or cuss words disguised or otherwise.
One link to your non-commercial fishing home page is allowed (in your signature area).
Approval is required prior to posting any fundraiser, tournament, etc.
Complaints about products, services or organizations require accountability (your entire real name signed on the post).
One membership per person, one person per membership.
Keep private correspondences private.
Fish stories are appreciated. False reports are cause for your removal.
Do not mention or discuss banned members on the board.
The Classifieds are for one-time private party transactions. Don’t set up shop.
Proofread! Spellcheck! Re-read before pressing “submit reply.”
We will be removing threads started with controversial links. They are often inflammatory and based in politics and do nothing positive for ifish.
Because of recent and more thoughtful angling laws, ifish will not allow pictures of fish out of the water where the law prohibits fish out of the water, or where the state recommends not removing fish to be released from the water.
Don’t fight with the moderators. You’ll lose.
Don’t like how we run things? Tell us HERE. Don’t post it.Ifish Mission Statement
Ifish.net is an online resource for people that are passionate about outdoor recreation, primarily fishing and hunting, and share a deep-rooted desire to be an active member of the largest community of like-minded sportsman and women. Like its constituents, ifish honors character, integrity and respect above all else. We are purveyors of a new generation of internet forum peacefulness, where collaboration, information and education are the forefront of our existence, and discourtesy is not tolerated. This “community” has built ifish.net by ourselves and for ourselves with the intention of leaving the legacy to future generations of ifishers.So…. I look forward to watching you grow and making your own rules,if we even need any! I mean, after all, we are a group of pretty awesome self moderating women!
But I love that you already are doing events like your weekend away! So cool!!!
Way to go, Megan! Thank you for all you have done to bring us together! I can’t wait to see this forum in 10 years!!! (If I’m still around! I’m 63 and the docs said I wouldn’t make it past 30! Whoo hooo!)

Wow, what an incredible impact you made on the world! I teared up reading this post, as it is inspiring, encouraging, and so generous. The toy drive is so touching and remarkable. Hats off to you and your ifish peeps for bringing semi-truck loads of joy to those kids! And what your community has done for the sport fishing community is amazing! I remember you mentioning the lures, and what a cool way to get people involved (and create a fury of desire on Ebay. So cool!) I also really appreciate you breaking down how you were able to moderate ifish. I am continuously working on how to make this forum better, and I’m definitely taking notes on how you did it.
Yes, what a dream it would be to have a big potluck dinner with POCFs around the world. Maybe within a 10-year period, it will happen, and you will most definitely be there! 🙂
Thank you, Jennie! I so appreciate you!
On that note, I’m figuring out a new topic for the next Zoom in October. What current challenges are you facing at the moment at a POCF or what are you most interested in connecting with other POCFs about?
THANK YOU JENNIE! BIG HUGS FROM NORTH CAROLINA!
Megan
