Y’all do so much for your communities, and I want to say, THANK YOU!

Wind Farms are a HUGE topic of conversation from coast to coast (and across the pond!) that I’m posting a letter template you an use to write to your local/state/government official about why we oppose the building of wind farms in our fisheries.

You can copy and past the information below OR you can click this link to get your own copy from Google Docs and go from there.

Re: Urgent Opposition to Offshore Wind Farms on Commercial Fishing Grounds

      Dear [Senator/Representative] [Last Name],

As a [commercial fisherman / partner of a commercial fisherman / supporter of sustainable fishing communities], I am writing to express my deep concern and strong opposition to the proposed development of offshore wind farms on vital commercial fishing grounds.

While I understand the importance of renewable energy development, the current plans to install wind farms in traditional fishing areas pose a direct threat to the livelihood of hardworking fishing families, the economic health of coastal communities, and the delicate balance of marine ecosystems.

These areas have sustained generations of fishermen and continue to provide high-quality, sustainable seafood to the American public. Installing wind turbines in these waters would:

Displace commercial fishing operations and reduce access to productive fishing grounds.

Disrupt marine habitats, migration patterns, and spawning areas critical to the sustainability of fish stocks.

Increase noise pollution and electromagnetic fields that threaten the well-being of marine mammals and fish species, including endangered populations.

Undermine the food security and economic stability of entire communities that depend on the fishing industry.

We are not against renewable energyโ€”we are against poorly planned projects that ignore the long-term environmental and social impacts on existing ocean users. There must be a balance between clean energy development and the protection of ocean-based livelihoods.

I urge you to advocate for:

A moratorium on wind farm development in active commercial fishing grounds until comprehensive, independent environmental and socioeconomic studies are completed.

Greater transparency and inclusion of commercial fishing voices in the planning and permitting process.

Policy frameworks that prioritize coexistence, sustainability, and the protection of working waterfronts.

Our oceans are not a blank canvas. They are already home to thriving, time-honored industries that must be respected. Please stand with fishing families and coastal communities by opposing wind farm developments that jeopardize our future.

Thank you for your attention to this critical issue.

      Sincerely,

      [Your Full Name]
