Husband and wife Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi lead the Grammy-winning band, Tedeschi Trucks Band.
Since 2010, theyâve brought people closer to heaven with Susanâs deep soul sound, Derekâs incendiary slide guitar riffs, and a band of talented musicians to match.
The Santa Barbara Bowl was graced by their presence along with openers Doyle Bramhall II and Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings on Sunday, June 7th, 2015.
Derek takes five with us â Southern accent and all.
Q:Â What do you think about Santa Barbara?
A:Â I donât think Iâve heard that much.
Well, youâre in for a treat! Youâll have a view of the ocean when you play the Bowl. Itâs beautiful out here!
Oh, Iâm sorry. I thought you were talking about a band. We know Santa Barbara well! There are a few guys in the band that has spent some time there, and weâre excited to come back.
Weâre happy to have you! Looking back, what has been your most memorable performance?
Itâs been a busy 5 years so thereâs been a few. Getting to play Royal Albert Hall with Mavis Staples was pretty amazing; doing a tour with B.B. King and the tour with The London Souls and The Black Crowes was some real magic. There are another 30 I can think of. Itâs been a good run so far.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
(Laughing) Iâve enjoyed most of the mistakes Iâve made quite a lot. I donât know if I would give myself too much advice. There are a few corners would warn myself about, but I feel in a lot of ways, those things are good for you. Itâs good to get blindsided occasionally.
