Strength of the Tides Pledge
If you’ve followed this blog for a while, THANK YOU! Also, you may have noticed one question I ask commercial fishing women is, Have you experienced sexual harassment on the job? The general answer has been, Not really. However, Jasmyn Te’o’s response made my heart clench. Here’s where the Strength of Tides comes in.
I first learned of the Strength of the Tides pledge when our fellow PCF and commercial fishing woman, Kinsey Justa, posted a link in the Partners of Commercial Fisherman FB Group.
From strengthofthetides.org:
Strength of the Tides is a community organization aiming to support, celebrate, and empower all womxn, trans, and genderqueer people on the water.
Basically, Strength of the Tides is asking captains, deckhands, tenders, and processors to sign a pledge to treat all women in the industry with respect!
Kinsey mentioned that this is an excellent resource for women fishermen. Now, they can see who has signed before committing to working on a vessel.
As women in or around the industry, let’s encourage our loved ones to sign as a way to “say out loud” that Partners of Commercial Fishermen and their partners support maritime women!
The Pledge
On mobile, you can sign the pledge here.
To learn more about Strength of the Tides:
- here is a link to their weekly Instagram posts, which introduces us to women who work on the water.
- A public Facebook page acts as an open forum for discussion.
- And for those in the industry, there’s a private Facebook group just for you!
I’m about to wake up my fiancĆ©, Chris, right now to sign the pledge. Who’s with me?š
