Replay: Fish Guts, Feels, & Fortitude – The Untold History of POCFs
Y’all, we’ve been around for a LOOOOOOOOONG time. Just think, the moment commercial fishing became “a thing,” so did partners of commercial fishermen. That’s right. We are the foundation of commercial fishing, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. 👯♀️✊
In this IG Live, we’re digging into the emotional history of fisheries and fish wives, the unrecorded experiences that aren’t taught in history books. Trish Whetstone, a Blue Foods Educator & Fisheries Historian, shares how POCFs would have felt at their particular time in history and what expectations were laid upon them by society, communities, and their fishermen.
Part storytelling, fact, myth (sea shanties, anyone?!), we discover the connection between POCFs then and now, how we’ve evolved, and what lessons we can take from the past to build our future.
*Bonus: Here are links to Sea Shanties that Trish Recommends! I must warn: Three Fishers is a doozy. I advise you not to listen while your fisherman is away. It’s a gut churner. For a giggle, click “Twiddle” by Misbehavin’ Maidens.
