Hi Everyone!
My name is Stacy Afonso. I am POCF (wife) to a scalloper in MA. He has worked through the different fisheries (scalloping, gill net, dragging, squid lobster) in our area for 22 years. Right now he is First Mate on two boats run by the same captain. He goes out of Point Judith, RI, New Bedford, MA, and Cape May, NJ. We have been together for 11 years and married for 8. The POCF life can be tough sometimes, but can also be great. I love to be there and see the boats he is on. I think it’s so cool when I can get aboard and checkout the whole boat LOL. It’s hard when he is away because I miss him. He can be gone for a week or longer. All depends where he goes out of and what kind of trip. I guess I have gotten used to it over the years but, I still cry when he leaves LOL. I am pretty independent so it’s not too bad when he is gone, other than missing him. We have a great relationship so that doesn’t suffer, and I think the absence make the heart grow fonder applies. Looking forward to chatting with everyone. I’m so interested in the other fisheries and how they compare.
